Highlights of the 2009 Season

Assistant coaches get raises

The Alabama football organization has given raises to five of its Assistant coaches this year. Of course for winning the National title, Coach Saban was awarded an extreme bonus of up to 500,000 dollars, instead of getting paid every three years. He will now get paid 4.6 million dollars a year which is more than last years of 4.0 million. The assistants coaches salary all averaged out to about a 20,000 dollar raise. this means that the main position coaches will at least make 350,000 dollars a year.

New commit DJ Pettway

Alabama's new commit for the 2011 signing class is far from the average player. His name is D.J. Pettway. He’s from Pensacola Catholic High school in Florida and is a versatile defensive end. At 6 feet one inches and 220 lbs he has played all four years for his varsity team and is known as one of the top defensive prospects in the country. He plans to sign with the Tide next February when he is eligible to do so.

Quarterback AJ Mcarron puts on a show

Redshirt freshman quarterback AJ McCarron put on a show at Alabama’s spring game last week. Most of the fans were surprised with the perfect throws and his arm strength. He played better than McElroy, who threw great but had 1 interception. He threw for 136 yards and also threw a 39 yard touchdown to Brandon Gibson to to secure the win over the crimson team. Coach Saban says that he may have a chance to start. McCarron was a heavy four star recruit and chose the Tide over Miami and many other great schools. All the other players on the team are happy that they can rely on a great backup if something were to happen to McElroy.

Alabama's football stadium expansion

Brian Denny Stadium is where the Crimson Tide go to battle on Saturdays. It is one of the largest stadiums in the country holding almost 93,000 fans. But after the university's president saw the success of the team in recent years, he has planned to expand the stadium so that it will fit over 100,000 raging fans. He says that the expansion will make it louder and a more intimidating environment for the visiting team. The expansion is set to be finished before the 2010 season and is expected to hold 103,400 fans making it the largest on campus stadium in the world

Alabama's spring game

The Crimson Tide held their spring football game was held Saturday March 17. Coach Sabin and the team were anxious to hit the field in front of a almost record setting 91,000 people which is a lot of fans. Most fans mainly wanted to see the Mark Ingram-Trent Richardson combo. They both played excellent at tailback. Other fans were wondering who the starting quarterback would be since their are four of them. Greg McElroy started for the crimson team while redshirt freshman A.J. McCarron started for white. McCarron led his team to beat McElroy and many people were impressed with his skills. But he wasn't the one who caught people's eyes, true freshman quarterback Philip Sims played outstanding behind McElroy. He threw for over 120 yards and 2 touchdowns and people were amazed by his athleticism and arm strength for a kid who just turned 18 a month ago. While the offense is spectacular, the defense is just as good even after they lost two all Americans Rolando McClain and Javier arenas and All-SEC corner Kareem Jackson. Sophomore Marcel Darius played great for the defensive line and Donta Hightower and Nico Johnson did exceptional at linebacker. He only weakness the Tide has is at safety but I think they have the talent and athleticism to get that position situated.
